Grand Tour, Grand Slam: A Digital Triumph for Cervélo

Explore the Cervélo Grand Slam website

When Team Jumbo-Visma accomplished the impossible by winning all three of the 2023 Grand Tours with different riders, their official bike partner, Cervélo, turned to us to digitally capture the magnitude of this moment. It wasn’t just a victory; it was a historic achievement in cycling, a feat never seen before. Our mission was to create an experience as extraordinary as the win itself—a celebration that allowed fans, newcomers, and casual enthusiasts to feel the power and thrill of this once-in-a-lifetime achievement.

Bringing the Glory to Life

We set out to design a compelling and immersive journey that honored the achievement. Our approach was to tell a visual story with a modern and dynamic UX, taking users on a ride through the highs, the drama, and the grit of each Grand Tour. This wasn’t just about recounting victories; it was about recreating the adrenaline, showcasing the challenges, and celebrating the dedication that got them to the finish line.

Engaging Every Kind of Fan

Our design catered to three distinct audience personas:

  1. The Cycling Die-Hards: Long-time followers who live for the stats, tactics, and details of each climb and sprint. They wanted to relive every intense moment and see the numbers that made history.
  2. New Fans: Those who were drawn in by the buzz, perhaps through the Netflix Tour de France series. For them, we highlighted key moments to ease them into the story and excitement.
  3. Casual Sports Enthusiasts: Those who might not follow cycling closely but recognize the impact of a Tour win. We aimed to captivate them with the sheer magnitude of what this victory represents.

A Story Told Through Design

Built as a single-page React application, the "Grand Tour Grand Slam" site used GSAP animation for seamless, fluid storytelling. Each section brought viewers closer to the action, starting with event highlights and race statistics that showcased the athletes' almost superhuman accomplishments. Users could then delve deeper into the individual races and explore the bikes that helped conquer the grueling demands of the sport.

A Collaborative Victory

Delivered in close collaboration with Cervélo, the result was a sleek, engaging, and technically sophisticated page that stands as a digital monument to a historic year in cycling. A page that doesn’t just recount a win, but celebrates the spirit of adventure and the drive to push boundaries—core values that resonate deeply with one of the world’s finest cycling brands.
