Field Notes2024-04-04Team VW Cat Skiing
We all know backcountry skiing is where it's at, but it doesn't mean you need to spend nights in a tiny snow cave or bushwhack for hours to get there. Sure, more effort can make it more memorable or remote, but sometimes you just want to go straight for the goods. The VentureWeb team did just that on our latest trip to Backcountry Snowcats near Pemberton, BC.
Based just off the Hurley Pass, Backcountry Snowcats offers access to 15,000 acres of pristine mountain terrain.
With only 12 cat skiers sharing this vast playground each week, it's an exclusive and exhilarating experience. We only had to walk 500 steps to start our adventure.
Backcountry Snowcats, run by Reg and Kathy Milne, is not your typical cat skiing operation. They are open to any backcountry adventure ideas you can dream up. Early in the season, they host ski tourers at their Hurley Mountain Lodge, where self-powered ascents are complemented by occasional bonus laps in the cat.
Snow safety and avalanche training are integral parts of the experience, ensuring everyone can enjoy the backcountry safely. We’re thrilled to see 15,000 acres being used for low-impact, sustainable skiing while introducing skiers to the backcountry in a safe environment.
If you are interested in booking, Reg and Kathy are always keen to hear from folks interested in visiting over the winter. They have created a super welcoming and adaptable environment for all adventure seekers.
Do you think Chris likes his job? We sure do.
